So Mike Mangini is now confirmed as Dream Theater's new drummer. What are you thoughts on the new drummer and of Portnoy's departure?

Mangini is a very talented drummer. He has won numerous awards and should be a good fit in Dream Theater as their new drummer, but I honestly really miss Portnoy. He was with them from the very beginning when they were still called Majesty. He is arguably the best drummer alive today, possibly ever, and has been one of the main forces in Dream Theater throughout their entire history. I do wish they could get Portnoy back, but I don't think that will happen soon. I really hope Mangini will fill his shoes well.

Did Portnoy go to A7x?

And yeah, Portnoy (atleast from what I've listened to) is an amazing drummer, to fill his shoes will be difficult, but this new guy seems very skilled and I think it'll work out.

No Portnoy never went to A7x. He was only touring with them briefly. He has not with them anymore. Portnoy is working on many different projects right now.

Personally, I don't like newer Dream Theater, so unless he changes the band drastically in some way, I really don't care.
