Ok, I'll go into a bit more detail if I get time over the next few days.
Basics are three teams of four. They can talk to each other (the individual teams).
You want to kill off, or outnumber the other teams.
Faction A is only able to night kill members of C,
Faction B is only able to night kill members of A,
Faction C is only able to night kill members of B.
The factions will be stuff like Earth, wind and fire. Maybe Fire,Water and Grass, or perhaps rock, paper and scissors. (we could also do something like three bands (The Beatles, Queen and The Doors permaybe?). Any suggestions will be accepted. It's only a flavour thing, and not central to the mechanics, which will be roughly the same.
Also of note is that each team will have a member with a scanning ability, and another with a faction unique ability. The people with these abilities will be chosen by the teams themselves on Night 0, in the QTs I provide you with in the role PM.
Oh, and each team has a night kill each night.

[If two more sign up, we can have 3 clans of five.]
[Note: It's not my original idea, I "borrowed" it from Renata on TWC who "borrowed" it from someone else]
[Second note: here's a second set of rules, might be a bit clearer:
The Basics
Three-Clan is a 12-player, 3-faction game. (Scholars, Swords, and Stone.) There is no town; you are all out to destroy everyone who isn’t on your team. You will know who your teammates are, and each faction will be assigned a Quicktopic in which to plot your enemies’ doom. Mechanically the game is similar to traditional mafia -- there will be a daily lynch vote, and each team will get its own night kill.
The Catch
The catch – each faction can only kill players from one of the other two factions. (Scholars kill Stone; Stone kills Swords; Swords kill Scholars.) Kills targeted at the wrong faction will fail, and initially, you will not know who is who. Lynch votes work normally.
Special Powers and Night Zero
Each team will have two special powers, which must be assigned to specific players on Night Zero. These powers are not held by the team collectively; if the player invested with one of these powers dies, the power is gone. The same player may not hold both. The powers are:
Spy -- each night this player may determine the faction of one opponent.
Special Operative -– this player holds a one-shot power which differs according to clan. Stone (night): stop all kills for one night. Scholar (day): stop one lynch*. Sword (night): protect one player from lynches and kills for the subsequent day and night.
Night Zero will be reserved for each team to assign its special roles and for initial strategy. There will be no usage of powers EXCEPT that each Spy may perform an investigation.
Kills
Kills are performed by the team collectively, and independently of power usage. (That is, a team will never lose the ability to kill at night or have to make a choice between killing and doing something else.)
Victory Conditions
Victory is assigned to the team that has maneuvered itself into a position where it cannot be prevented from eliminating the other factions. Correct voting is assumed in this calculation (that is, even a spottily-present team member will be assumed to be present and able to vote); correct use of powers is not.
Tie Votes
Random.org should do nicely.
Miscellaneous rules and General Etiquette
Dead players may continue to assist their team in their Quicktopic, but may not otherwise participate.
Night chat is allowed, as is chat outside this thread and the Quicktopics (though for your own sake, you should probably limit that!)
Faction is not revealed upon death.
There will be no notice of why a lynch was stopped or why a night kill failed.
For balance reasons, there will be no WOGs. Therefore I ask for signups only from players who can commit to at least minimal participation -- a vote each day and a few words for your teammates in your Quicktopic each day and night. If you need a sub, let me know.
I'm going with 48-hour days for the sake of fairness to teams that may wind up with members in different time zones, and 24-hour nights. Deadlines will be strictly enforced; in return, I will be as prompt as I can myself. However --]
