I try to keep an open mind to all albums. I never make an opinion until I have listened to the whole album. I'll start off with some albums I own and will take requests from there. First one will be up in about an hour.
Pearl Jam-Ten.
Pearl Jam kicks off their career with a kickass album. With many hits that are still popular to this date and possibly their most famous songs. Was rated Number 11 in best albums of 1990's.
The album has the highest rating possible of Diamond. It kicks off it's album with it's opening track with a slow intro but soon after Vedder's unique groans and screeches fill the track of Once. Also with an amazing Drum and Guitar line. Then melts into one of the most famous tracks of all time Even Flow which flew them and their singer Vedder straight to the top. The album then continues into Alive a Short Story within the lyrics of a boy and his mother mourning of his father's death. But soon finds out his actual father is well and alive. Follows into an 3 min electric Guitar solo that people will remeber for ages and is even featured on the popular Rock Band. Then the album slows down into a more Grunge sound of Why Go. Then slows down even more to a more heart felt song of Black. Then speeds up a bit with some more Grunge with Jeremy. Another short story song based on a true story of a high school student who commited suicide in front of his classmates. Then slows down again into one of my favorite songs by the band Oceans with melodic guitar playing and ooh's and oh's. Then speeds up again into the opening chords of Porch and one of the first times the F bomb is dropped in Music History in the opening lyric. Then the album continues in to another one of my favorite songs Garden. Which I think is based on a Stalker or Serial Killer in your garden with a 'Shadow Plan'. The album then continues on into the feel of Once and implements crazed Guitar Licks on Deep. The album then ends on the epic 9 minute song Release which actually ends at 4 mins but a secret song called Master/Slave is implemented. The song is actually a mash up of all the previous 10 songs mashed into one song.
It's definetly one of the greatest debut albums and one of the greatest albums of all time.
10/10
Dark Horse-Nickelback
The first time I heard this album I was like it was alright.
Then I listened to it a second time after analyzing the lyrics. I'll keep it PG and just say it was terrible. As you know Nickelback was leading a terribly downhill carreer they tried to revive themselves by trying something new. The new style is clearly shown in some songs but the same old vulgar, sex style is still yet lingering behind it. The album starts off with a pretty good bass/drum line on Something In Your Mouth. But suddenly Chad's lyrics are majorly sexual innuendo about a stripper/hooker. Then the album continues into a quarter decent attempt at making a Heavy Metal track with Burn It To The Ground. some semi decent lyrics and some good instrumental playing. But sections of Chad's lyrics lower the quality of the track.
It had momentum to be an awesome track but it was quicly destroyed. Then Nickelback continues the album with their 'new style' with a more heart felt Gotta Be Somebody. You wonder why he's singing about there's Gotta Be Somebody out there for me? It's rather obvious why no one wants to be his girlfriend he doesn't act his age. We continue the 'new style' in I'd come for you one of the only good songs on the album.
Next Go Round After two somewhat decent songs they ruin it with their old style again major amounts of Sexual Innuendo here. Just To Get High the title should lead you away immediately. But I decided to have an open mind man was I wrong apparently this is about a Drug Dealer who goes mad deranged killer and tries to kill his friend and his mother. Wow Nickelback awesome story...... Nickelback continues with some decency in the song Never Gonna Be Alone the song wasn't that great however the music video for it honestly brought a tear to my eye. Shakin' Hands another pretty trashy song of old style Nickelback. Sounding like another Drug Dealer song wonder where I have heard that before?
S.E.X. title should give it away it's obviously some more sexual innuendo the worst song on the album for sure. Then the album closes off with two decent songs. Never Gonna Be Alone a hit off the album. A decent song and decent music video. This Afternoon a decent song off the album. But geez Nickelback can't let go of that old style and take a decent song and ruin it in the music video. Even in the music video the chief partyer hates Nickelback.
For the overall review there is 6 terrible songs. 4 decent songs and 1 decent song ruined by the music video. Nickelback the majority of your songs sucked....
