I think we were planning to just hit the chords and the solos. A combo.

And for the guitar parts I was going to record two different tracks. George really doesn't do too much in the song besides the solo.

IMHO this shouldn't be too competitive. More just a fun way for all of us to record a song together and see what we all do differently.

Are we trying to be as accurate and clean as possible? Or can we make up our own solo, make a new verse, extended jamming etc.?

I would say no.
But if the band agrees then yes.
But Milk, gets the final say, this is his thread.

I think the band should be able to take liberties if they want. It could be like Cake's I Will Survive or Devo's I Can't Get No Satisfaction for all I care as long as it's the same song. I mean, if they just do it exactly how the original is then how would we even be able to decide which one would win?

Devo's Head Like a Hole and Sunn O)))'s For Whom the Bell Tolls are great examples of completely changing a song and making it better than the original somehow.

Sunn O)))'s version isn't better, at least that's what I think. It's mostly the same main guitar chord. I don't understand how it can even come close to the original.
