Avatar's not a shitty film: I found it to be very entertaining. However, other than special effects, it doesn't do anything out of the ordinary and is basically Dances With Wolves set in the future. I found Avatar to be a very symbolic film. It has a great storyline. It was very dramatic and kept you on the edge of your seat. But what was so symbolic about it was that it showed of what we did to the Native Americans. They weren't bad people. But we made them out to be and completely annihilated them.

What I like most about it is the culture of the Na'vi. And the special effects were amazing.
And the part where Jake nearly died... man, that was intense.
Whether or not it was clichéd doesn't matter, it was very well-executed.

It's not like that hasn't been a major plot point of movies about Native Americans like Pocahontas or Dancing With Wolves... It has a decent plot and good special effects. Does it stand up to the all-time movie greats and classics? No. Not at all.

I've never heard about Dancing With Wolves ever until Zilla mentioned it and I considered Pocahontas a chick flick. *double shot*

I half-expect Toy Story 3 due to everyone (especially Joe) having a huge Pixar boner.

It was a good movie but I would never consider it the best of all time.

Despite The Godfather being the best, I do think most people here haven't seen it and some of the younger members wouldn't exactly "get" it.
