I am gonna try giving this album review thing a shot, I'll start off reviewing three albums and will take certain requests to review certain albums.
Rubber Soul - The Beatles(1965)
To me, this is probably The Beatles' second best album and definitely their best album of the early era. This album is what really started their shift of sound and experimentation that lead to the psychedelic trip that was the next album, Revolver. All of the songs off of Rubber Soul are great. On this album we have two of John Lennon's most lyrical masterpieces, "In My Life" and "Nowhere Man". Paul has his share of great songs as well. But aside from The Beatles' two main songwriters, this album shows George Harrison's ambition to get his songs on albums. Even Ringo has a song on Rubber Soul. Overall I believe this was the album that made The Beatles more than just a rock/pop band from Liverpool that made it to the big time. Rubber Soul showed the amazing songwriting talents at their best.
10/10
American Idiot - Green Day(2004)
Deciding to do this one to add some moderness to my reviews and to prove how I was wrong. You see I used to have an untolerable hatred for Green Day, but RB changed my mind. Now I believe Green Day are actually saving current mainstream rock, along with others. But onto the album. After Warning totally flopped Green Day did a lot of recording and the end result was this album. It has many high points and great songs, but it also has some boring not-so special songs. The best song off of this album has to be the epic "Homecoming" a song over nine minutes long and featuring a solo vocal part for each band member. The concept of Rage and Love story line of this album is deep, as it follows the story of The Jesus of Suburbia, St Jimmy and Whatsername. The story takes a few listenings to finally get the whole thing, but it turns out great in the end. Each song contains something we can all relate to at one point in our lives. I completely overlooked Green Day and saw them as terrible, but this album is really a masterpiece, minus a song or two so because of that I give it a high
9/10
Korn - MTV Unplugged(2007)
Four words, Worst.Christmas.Present.Ever
I have to do some bad reviews to be a true reviewer. I got this album as a present and thought it would be an O.K album. But oh no I was terribly wrong, terribly terribly wrong. Korn goes back and tries to redo their own songs acoustically, but that concept really doesn't work. Featuring Amy Lee on Freak On A Leash with piano, was just awful. And then you would think the cover of Creep, by Radiohead would be O.K, but no that was awful as well. Some songs are decent on the album, but they do not redeem the awfulness of the other songs. I really thought this album was shit, and even when I tried to sell it at a yard sale for 2 bucks, no one bought it.
2/10
Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin(1969)
HOLY SHIT SO JAMMY !!!!
I reviewed this album as a request. What I found special about this album, other than the fact it's Led Zeppelin and is epic, is that it was ahead of it's time, fused with hard rock elements and jams. Although that is my one complaint, too many jams. For me, Zeppelin is more of a greatest hits band, really good but I can really only listen to their hits. I am trying to be as unbiased as possible here. There is no denying the influence this album had on music and how ahead of it's time it was. This album deserves a solid IMO
7/10
Metallica-Kill Em' All
Another request by Soup. Easily one of my favorite albums of all time. This album shows everything Metallica is about(well at least 1980s Metallica). Heavy fast paced riffs, and vocals that would make your parents scared. Bass God, Cliff Burton(R.I.P) truly showed his best on this album, with one track devoted to his awesome bass style.I am no music snob or elitist, but I am to believe this is one of the first thrash metal albums ever released. This album shows what we really owe Metallica, and it's sad to see how they've changed in the 90s. At the time this was released it kicked the asses of all the "glam metal" sissies out there. In the words of Metallica. METAL UP YOUR ASS !
10/10
The Hives-Veni Vidi Vicious
I honestly knew what I was getting into here. This album was suggested by Gary, and as soon as I saw it said The Hives, I knew I was in for a treat. The singles off of the album are great and they are the only thing I've heard before I listened to this album. The album starts off with the booming heaviness of Declare Guerre Nucleaire . The whole album was great, but it's something I wouldn't really listen to all at once, I like all the songs, but I would have to say I'd rather put the album in a shuffle of other songs on my ipod. Overall, kickass album, Gary.
9/10
Sonic Youth-Daydream Nation(1988)(
Suggested by SMAP. Should have known better than to doubt him. This album IS AMAZING. No wonder why it is now in the National Recording Registry. People have praised Sonic Youth and I also thought, are those people crazy ? they suck ! But I only thought teenage riot sucked, well at least the beginning. Silver Rocket is my favorite off of Daydream Nation. Although I praised this album, I still can find flaws, some songs drag out too long for how good they are. I give this a low
8/10
SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Weezer-Hurley(2010)
"The weez has turned and left me here" were my exact thoughts when I heard 2009's Raditude. Well my friends, things have changed. After 8 years of being away and estranged, Weezer is great again. This album contains a lot of synth, and is kind of poppy in certain songs. But a lot of songs show old Weezer elements. Many of you out there will not like this, but I do. When The Beatles adding a lot of changes and keyboards to their songs, people still thought they were great, so why can't the same go for Weezer ? This album isn't just a hilarious concept for LOST fans, it is but a sign of hope for Weezer. A bonus song on the deluxe edition of Hurley, "I Want To Be Something" reeks of Pinkerton sound(well for me at least). The best song on the normal version is, "Where's My Sex?" it is definetly Green album, or maybe even Pinkerton Weezer. After years of being away......Weezer is back.
7/10
Weezer-Death To False Metal(2010)
Well I was at Target today and saw this album and thought, why not buy it ? AND HOLY SHIT IT'S AMAZING !!! It as if you took Pinkerton, Green Album, and Maladroit and mashed their sounds. I am pretty sure this is Weezer's comeback, the songs on here are full of Pinkerton's deep lyrics, and Green's and Maladroit's heavy instruments. Death To False Metal may just be the turn-around Weezer needed
