Recently game companies have been screwing us if we buy a used game.
Mortal Combat for example, if you buy it new, it comes with a season pass, which is the pass that makes it so you can play online and it comes with characters. If you buy it used, you have to buy the season pass online for 20 bucks.
Dragon Age did this with DLC, as did LA Noire and a few others.

Yeah, typically when I buy used games, it's because it's hard to find them new (unless you go online or something). I've never bought a used PS3/Wii/DS game, and I've only bought a few used PS2/GBA games (mostly because I haven't been buying as many games recently).
Edit: When I was a kid, we had a used game store near us that we would always go to to trade in a bunch of random SNES games and get other random games on NES and Gameboy. Funnily enough, we bought FFIV there used and sold it back later on for more than we bought it for.

If I save money and the game works then there's no reason not to buy the game used.

I'll get it used if it is in good condition and there aren't any specials (like, free dlc or something) in them.
If it is from a company I really like I almost never buy the game used (Like Harmonix, and Square Enix), unless I cannot find it new.
