New album was released a couple of weeks ago.
Early stuff is death/black metal, with their newer stuff being thrash/black metal. They also incorporate various classical and romantic influences, acoustic interludes, synthesizers, and some progressive elements. Proscriptor McGovern is one of the best drummers you can find in the genre of metal. He's also the vocalist. Absu's releases go by conceptual cycles: the first 2 albums are based on Sumerian mythology; while 'The Third Storm of Cythraul', 'In the Eyes of Ioldanach' and 'Tara' form a trilogy about old Celtic mythology. After a hiatus of 5 years the band returned in 2009 with 'Absu', the first part of a new trilogy based on magic and occultism. This was continued with their newest album "Abzu," and will be continued with their next album.
