Odd-but true; Black Metal icon Euronymous may be the tailfin image for Norwegian Airlines.
Norwegian Black Metal became famous overnight with the murder of Mayhem’s guitarist Euronymous (Øystein Aarseth). Euronymous was murdered by fellow bandmate Varg Vikernes (aka Count Grishnackh), who later went on to famously burn down Norwegian churches. The Count went to prison and joined a neo-Nazi movement and now his slain victim is set to be a national icon, with his image painted on tail fins of the budget airline company, Norwegian.
The airline is celebrating its 10 year anniversary, and launched a contest for the public to nominate its heroes to adorn the tails of the airplanes to fly from four different cities; Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger and Trondheim. As it stands now, Oslo’s leading hero is Euronymous. A local nominating committee had put his name forward and metal fans have rallied behind the cause, earning him the highest amount of votes in Oslo.
