I wouldn't say Zappa or The Beatles are underrated. Especially The Beatles: saying that they're underrated is almost as bad as saying that Bob Dylan is underrated. If anything, people give them too much credit for their musicianship, especially when it comes to their early stuff. Some people rank their pre-Rubber Soul stuff higher than it should because it's done by the same guys who made Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper's. Frank Zappa isn't the most mainstream musician ever, but he's incredibly well known in most music circles, with Hot Rats ranking at #83 overall on Rate Your Music.

I mean their best musicianship is typically hidden in within their most popular songs. I mean the only zappa song that's popular where he's doing amazing composing is Willie the Pimp. The Beatles have stuff that's so much more "damn they can play" that what people hype.

Are you all ganging up on me? suspicion sets in to the green day fan's mind he gingerly looks behind him, his computer chair creaking, and in the dim light that filters through the shuttered blinds of his bedroom he imagines intruders out of his pizza boxes, his CDs, his cans of red bull and monster and amp, his dirty clothes that pile like innumerable towers of babel we find him weeks later with rations and cans of soup piled in corners of his room and the guns his uncles bought are lined up on the floor in a line behind him and one on his desk in case the internet people come in and try to gang up on him more but we will never know if we are ganging up or not or if we will ever find his address or even if we care enough or are we trying to fuel the paranoia or or or |
