Week 2: "Smalhans" by Lindstrøm
Disco isn't dead. I will never be able to remember these song titles, but I like it. The songs remind me of music I'd hear playing Sega Genesis games, except it's not 8-bit or whatever. It's feel-good music, and I enjoyed it. My final verdict is that, despite it's good vibes and good beats, it's not something I would listen to regularly. I feel as if I would only listen to it while doing something, not just sitting down and listening to it.

Zilla2112's Music Club Reviews: Week 3
"Gangrene" by Mirrorthrone
I know I'm not obligated to listen to or review my own album pick, but I feel like I should review it!
I remember finding this album on /mu/ a couple of years ago, and it certainly wowed me when I first heard it. If anybody's played Brutal Legend, the track "So Frail" was featured in the game, which is where I heard it first. However, listening to the full thing is what really made me enjoy this album more.
Vladimir Cochet is the entire force behind Mirrorthrone, and practically every Mirrorthrone album is done entirely by him. The fact that these songs are so complicated and so richly orchestrated is incredibly impressive for just one person. 'Gangrene' is no exception: though it doesn't differ that much from other Mirrorthrone albums, it refines and perfects the sound Vladimir has done for his previous two albums.
"Dismay" starts the album with a bang, setting the stage for the album with its reliance on heavy riffs, blast beats, and screaming vocals mixed with clean choruses, solo piano sections, orchestral elements, and progressive time signatures and song structures. The acoustic guitar section at the end is incredibly tasty as well.
"No One By My Side" is slower and more melodic throughout, though it explodes halfway through with crazy drumming and Vladimir's screams. Definitely a standout, with its more emotional riffs and recurring themes.
"The Fecal Rebellion" is arguably one of the worst song titles I've heard. To put it bluntly, it's pretty shitty. However, the song isn't: it's the longest and most epic song on the entire album. The intro is beautiful and epic, while that one tempo change in the middle is just insane.
"Ganglion" and "Une Existence..." are both pretty solid, but aren't as memorable as the other tracks. "So Frail", which closes the album, may be the best song on the entire record. It's not as long as the others, so it's a lot more easily digestible. The chorus is excellent on this one, as is the instrumentation and song structures. With all the long epics on this album, a simpler song is a more welcome change.
This album does indeed have its flaws. Since Mirrorthrone is a one man project, Vladimir sadly didn't have the budget to hire a real drummer or orchestra, so he uses programmed ones. They still sound good, but having the real things would be better. While Vladimir's screams are solid, his clean vocals lack the presence and power many other metal vocalists have. The album is pretty long too, and may drag at points with its similar sound. Despite these flaws, I really enjoy the blend of heaviness and symphonic elements that 'Gangrene' has. I'm so glad I was able to purchase this underrated metal gem and support Vladimir and his musical efforts.

"Gangrene" by MirrorthroneWell to start out this album was fantastic only have way into the first song you can tell you'll love it but it still has flaws a lot of the songs drag on and it gets boring and to be honest the drumming wasn't that fantastic it seems typical for a metal album the vocals are great the screams of course better the clean vocals just seem weak for a metal album but it has an excellent sound overall big ups Gangrene by Mirrorthrone 9/10
