Here's what I heard so far this year:
1. The Raven that Refused to Sing by Steven Wilson - 4.5/5
Awesome retro-inspired prog with excellent songwriting and instrumental performances. Hearing this album live was a total treat too! It will probably be my #1 this year.
2. m b v by My Bloody Valentine - 4/5
MBV is back like it was the early 90's, and the songwriting here is very good. It keeps the classic Loveless sound while expanding on new musical grounds.
3. The 20/20 Experience by Justin Timberlake - upper 3.5/5
Excellent pop album inspired by classic R&B and soul. Some songs are too long, but this is JT's most interesting and experimental work by far.
4. Random Access Memories by Daft Punk - upper 3.5/5
The return of Daft Punk is a blast to the past, with stellar production and some really cool tunes. It's super long, and a few tracks are just alright, but nothing's bad on here.
5. Ungrateful by Escape the Fate - 3.5/5
EtF returns with a harder, more metalcore influenced sound. It's predictable and can get a bit cheesy, but the kickass parts of tracks like "Ungrateful", "Until We Die", and "You're Insane" are worth it.
6. The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here by Alice in Chains - 3.5/5
The new AiC is nothing groundbreaking, but it's all rock solid stuff. The heavy and sludgy main riff of "Hollow" is one of the best this year.
7. Earth Rocker by Clutch - 3.5/5
Clutch put out another bluesy, stoner metal album that is distinctive of their style. There's not much new in sound here, but it's all a blast to listen to.
8. The Next Day by David Bowie - 3.5/5
David Bowie's newest album in a decade is a very solid album, even though the vocals are buried in the mix. "Where Are We Now?" is probably one of my favorite lead singles this year.
9. ...Like Clockwork by Queens of the Stone Age - 3.5/5
QotSA's newest release is arguably their best, and features a lot of great guest contributors. A few tracks are relatively lacking and forgettable, but none of it is bad either. The title track is a treat too.
10. The Living Infinite by Soilwork - 3/5
Soilwork's massive double album is an ambitious undertaking indeed, but it slowly begins to drag over time. There's only so much pop-metal I can take before I start to get tired. Would be better as a regular album instead.
11. Yeezus by Kanye West - 3/5
Kanye's latest release differs from the grandiose and beautifully produced MBDTF, and is more experimental and dark. However, Kanye's lyrics on here can be absolutely cringeworthy and juvenile at times. Some of the beats can get annoying too.

11. Life Sentence - Satan 10. Magic Circle - Magic Circle 9. Earth Rocker - Clutch 8. The Eldritch Dark - Blood Ceremony 7. Brief Nocturnes and Dreamless Sleep - Spock's Beard 6. Pelagial - The Ocean 5. 13 - Black Sabbath 4. Trouble Will Find Me - The National 3. Push the Sky Away - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds 2. Wakin on a Pretty Daze - Kurt Vile 1. The Raven That Refused to Sing (And Other Stories) - Steven Wilson (It helps that I got to see him live and see it performed in full too)
Ugh... been a great year, it's hard to narrow it down.

Tomorrow's Harvest and Kveikur are both on my list of albums to listen to. I'd put Amok on there too, though I gotta go find it, since it's not on Spotify.
