Damn, sorry bro. Granted, my dad doesn't like Sonic Youth or the Pixies either, but he likes about 95% of the music I like. Does your dad listen to the Rolling Stones or Queen, or is his music taste THAT bad? No. He really is that bad. He even tries to rap/sing along with the songs. And he doesn't like the Stones or Queen or anything like that. Man, what a total pleb.

Although if one listens to a lot more and different music than someone else, I would be more likely to agree with the one who listens to more.

Everybody has different tastes... Believe it or not, you guys are actually criticizing what they think is awesome music. Everyone is different. Plus, just because you listen to bands the general public doesn't know about, doesn't make you better than them. You shouldn't hate on bands because they're popular. Give them a chance. That's why I always say "Music: If it sounds good, listen to it!". I'm not afraid to say that I like Blink-182, Katy Perry, Adele, The Script, and Linkin Park. I'm also not afraid to say I like The Main Drag, Aviatic, Children of Nova, The Icarus Account, and Goose. People just like different stuff. But yeah, people should expand their tastes. But don't hate on them because of their ignorance, build off it. /rant But srsly. By the way, sorry if it seemed like I lumped you guys into the group of typically internet music haters. I didn't mean to. Think about it is, it all may seem subjective, but there must be some sort line somewhere that someone can cross over into terrible music. I mean, sure, if something exists, there is always going to be at least one person who likes it and at least one that doesn't, but hey. Some people are just wrong. Sure, it's a terrible counter-argument, and the only thing that can back it up is controversial philosophies, so take it with a grain of salt. I, however, believe in this objectivity.

That aside, I was going through some of my lame 70's albums and I forgot just how cool Blue Oyster Cult's debut was.

You know what? It's really easy to forget how good an artist actually is because all you ever hear is their hits. Take the Guess Who for example. "American Woman" is really popular, but the other songs on that album are just as good if not better than that song.
Don't let the crap YouTube quality take away from how good the songs are.

Agreed. American Woman is one of the Guess Who's worst. I like Undun, Share the Land, Hand me down World, No Time, and No Sugar Tonight much more.

I'll be honest and say I find The Guess Who kinda meh....
They have a few decent songs though, American Woman definitely not one however.

It really depends on what you listen to I guess. Canned Wheat and American Woman are really the only good albums they've ever recorded, but they have a few hit-and-miss songs before and after those two, like "These Eyes".

I hate it when bands are loads better live than they are in the studio, mainly because their live output is usually considerably smaller than their studio one. Thin Lizzy for example. You have no idea how much I like Live And Dangerous, but their studio albums? They just can't compare.

I still think Phish is only good live.
And Alice Cooper is considerably better.
