I don't consider putting random noises together to be musically creative.

Blah, I always hit reply too soon. Soup, for saying yourself you've never heard The Mountain Goats, I wouldn't question my placement of them.
Do Make Say Think is one of the most important Indie artists and Husker Du is super important in bridging the gap between punk and alternative.
Roy and Elvis are compilations because back in their day, full albums were full of filler tracks and were rarely heard. Those compilations feature nearly every important song by them.
And Le Noise is one of Neil Young's most experimental albums. Just because it's from 2010 doesn't mean it's a bad choice.

King Crimson was super close but there's a lot of prog here that honestly are a lot more creative. The a lot of prog already applies to Genesis and Yes as well. The Stones, The Who, and B.B. King all did lots of daring things in their music, but couldn't quite put them on the list. wat

I would prefer another classic Neil Young album. The year it comes out in has nothing to do with it.

I don't consider putting random noises together to be musically creative. It creates a mood. Shit like that is completely out of the ordinary and Noise wouldn't be nearly as big if it wasn't for him. The fact people question whether it's music or not makes it groundbreaking enough.

Roy and Elvis are compilations because back in their day, full albums were full of filler tracks and were rarely heard. Those compilations feature nearly every important song by them. There are much better comps than those you listed. Not to mention that each has a quintessential studio album.

And are those other comp like fucking huge 50 song things?

Why is the only Pink Floyd album on this Piper At the Gates of Dawn??? Also no St. Vincent. And no Megadeth? But a bunch of Mountain Goats?? I'll give you credit for Xiu Xiu but y u no include The Air Force? Piper is still by far their most daring. Also why the fuck would I put St. Vincent on? Megadeth, I understand, but really?

The fact people question whether it's music or not makes it groundbreaking enough. It isn't really groundbreaking though, in any sense. Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music came out five years before Merzbow started making records and it is practically the same as everything Merzbow has ever done.
