It creates a mood. Shit like that is completely out of the ordinary and Noise wouldn't be nearly as big if it wasn't for him. The fact people question whether it's music or not makes it groundbreaking enough. It isn't really groundbreaking though, in any sense. Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music came out five years before Merzbow started making records and it is practically the same as everything Merzbow has ever done. Because it's not even close to the same thing and was a deeply boring piece of noise with little tension created. |

Also, if you're going to have fucking Sgt Pepper's on there, why not some Stones? Let It Bleed? Sticky Fingers? Sticky Fingers was literally just a fun collection of catchy blues-rock songs. One of my favorite albums? Yes. Must-listen? No. Let it Bleed isn't quite up to much artistic merit. It's like previous Stones only more matured and polished. Still an influential album nonetheless. |

At least LIB and SF were creative. SPLHCB was totally a Pet Sounds rip-off. Either that or it's some miraculous coincidence. That's my only gripe with that album, aside from the whole not liking the Beatles thing. |
