The plays were, yes, because they had characters, a clear plot, and made a statement about society at that period of time. However, the album basically takes some of the violent elements of the plays and doesn't expand on them at all. It's art, yes, but it's nothing truly meaningful. A Nickelback album probably has just as much meaning as this does. So, if they decided to write about other parts of the play for no reason, it would be meaningful?

To you it may not be meaningful but to someone else it probably will, it's really on how the person thinks of it to take it really.

Scarecrow, you certainly bring up a good point. Someone could interpret Lulu to mean what they want it to, but I just personally don't think Lou and Metallica purposefully made a deep album here. If they had maybe expanded on the ideas more instead of just talking about the violence and sex, maybe it'd have more meaning.

What album are those reviews for? Abbey Road. The Calgary Sun one isn't on Wikipedia anymore though, probably because they don't know a perfect album when they see one. Because anything with Mean Mr Mustard/Polythene Pam/Bathroom Window totally deserves a perfect score, right? >___> /sarcasm

I find Lulu to be a great record. So what if one of the lyrics is "I am the table" it has to mean something deeper than James saying he is a table.

>implying that objectively, that medley isn't uber-weak, especially compared to other material on the album, thus taking away from the album's overall enjoyment value and fluidity, and thus its overall quality
Even when I have a non-cynical view of the album, those three songs are relatively bad.

Even they gave it a 1, ha. The more I listen to it, the more I enjoy it. The only problem I have for it nowadays is the repetitiveness.

Yeah, you're right that the quality of those songs isn't as high as some of the other parts of the album, but they're still good and fit in with the context of the album.

Context or no, it's a bad follow-up to Sun King. :/
I would be much more satisfied if either a) those three songs weren't there period or b) they were put either before or after Silver Hammer. They seem more appropriate there, and not sandwiched between Sun King and Golden Slumbers.

According to Pitchfork Tallahassee is by far the worst Mountain Goats album, Crystal Castles are a good band, KISS makes 10/10 albums, and Andrew WK is terrible. I gave up on them.

Because Oh! Darling is the best song of both the decade and century.

I am legitimately wondering how I Am The Table = deep and meaningful.
At this point I don't even want to be offensive but wtf does it mean?
