That was in part because everyone had them already, like the Wii. Considering before the Wii, the PS2 was like the system nearly everyone owned, I don't see your point. And I'm pretty sure the N64 wasn't even the biggest seller of its generation. If you need a different example, how is the original Xbox selling today? How was the SNES in 2001?

However, the N64 only sold a total 32.93 million copies, whereas the PS1 sold a staggering 102.49 million. The Wii sold 87.57 million by comparison.
